Come Home to…Ahhh

Would you like to say…”Ahhh” each time you come home?

Pure white rooms are trending right now. But there are a zillion whites to chose from. A LRV (Light Reflective Value) of 90 + like the one in this picture not only brightens the room but your mood as well.

Of course we all do. But is it possible to create “Ahhh” in your home without huge effort and without breaking the bank? I’m here to tell you it is possible when you follow advice like this. Try these science –backed decorating ideas so the minute you walk through the door, it’s nothing but CALM, ZEN and Ahhh.

Painted in Benjamin Moore’s English Hyacinth #1417, this room is calm and serene, and at the far end a cozy corner just for you!

Color….Paint walls a calming color. It directly affect mood, so the hues in your rooms can have a big impact on how you feel. Environmental psychologist Sally Augustin, PH.D., says the most relaxing colors are bright and unsaturated colors. Think light lavender, sage green and pale blue tinted whites.

Clutter….Piles of stuff causes stress because it’s more difficult for the eyes and brain to interpret your surroundings. Get storage boxes with lids and slide them under the furniture where it’s not seen but it’s still accessible in the room.

The monochromatic color scheme and soft warm lighting in this cozy corner does the trick. Can you stay and have a cup of tea?

Cozy Corner…Spending time alone helps improve concentration and increases productivity, says psychologist Sherrie Bourg Carter, Psy.D. I have to agree, a spot all your own free of distractions where you can read, daydream or enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or an adult beverage.

Photos…Hang portraits or framed pictures of happy friends and family doing fun and happy times. It lessens your body’s response to stress and anxiety.

The unity of dark frames with the stair steps and bench color all work together to create a sense of order. Order is the first step to creating a good clean design in a space.

Lighting…Install warm lightbulbs where possible in the entry, living room, dining room, and bedroom. Warm light softens your space and makes it easier to downshift emotionally from the hustle and bustle of the day.

A bit on the feminine side but oh so calming, this entry gives you cause to kick off your shoes, drop your purse and get comfortable!

It’s rough out there, but it shouldn’t be in your home. Follow the tips above and let me know if it makes you say “Ahhhh”.
